Gary McDonagh reports that this weeks Winter League competition was close at the top with 1 point separating the top 5 players. The winner was Angus Towers with 29 points, pipping Gary McDonagh on the BIH. Our league table will continue to show the best 8 scores from each player until the conclusion of the winter league in 5 weeks time. Top of the table is now Gary McDonagh who has a 2 point advantage over Joyce Michie, with Benny Hartop Senior a further 4 points back. Captain Allan Learmonth hosted a very successful and enjoyable Burns Supper in the Clubhouse yesterday evening (8th February). There are lots of comments on the Club's Facebook page saying how good the evening was. Minto Bridge Ladies held their lunch at the Auld Cross Keys in Denholm on 31st January when 15 members attended. Kaija Sanford reported that they had a good meal and everyone enjoyed it. Anne Paterson reports that on Sunday, February 3rd, Minto Estate was the venue for a Border Cross Country Race being organised by the Teviotdale Harriers. There were 2 courses, one for adults and one for juniors, but both started and finished near the Golf Club. With 98 children and 160 adults taking part in the races and attendant club officials and race stewards, the clubhouse was a busy place on Sunday. Seven men and five ladies took part in the Mixed Texas Scramble today. There was a slight flurry of snow as we started but as we were finishing the snow was getting slightly heavier. In third place were Mary Walker, Irene Middlemiss, Tam Glendinning and Colin Gibson with 34.2. In second place were Marion King, John Biggar, David Squirrell and Kenny Lyle with 28.6. Those of you already following the Facebook page will have seen the announcement yesterday of the return of Scott Daley to Minto where he plans to continue the very successful Carveries he has been running at the Cross Keys in Lilliesleaf. Minto Golf Club is an ideal venue for Captains' Outing and Society bookings. We welcome bookings at weekends as well as during the week. The views from our Clubhouse and Course are stunning across the rolling hills of the Borders. Minto is a par 69 course for Gents and par 71 for Ladies with a good mix of pars 3, 4 and 5. With the course being fairly quiet at the moment the Joker has been hibernating, but he stirred a little bit last Monday (17th December) before resuming his slumbers until February. The winner on Monday was David Squirrell. David wins £18 and chose to turn card C2 which revealed the 2 of spades meaning our jackpot climbs to £159 and the Joker can resume his slumbers. Our next draw will take place on Monday 11th February before moving into more frequent draws when the season starts. Congratulations to Christine Fitzgerald who wins her 2019 membership of Minto Golf Club in the first 'Win a 2019 membership' draw at the Golf Club.
