Fox & Hounds Finals Day - Full results and story!

FOXHOUNDSCongratulations to Stewart Paisley on winning the 2018 Fox & Hounds Finals Day 36-hole Championship.  Stewart led by 7 strokes after Round 1 but the pressure began to tell in the second round as the chasing pack closed in.  In the event Stewart held his nerve to record a 2 shot win over Barry ScottStewart recorded net 132 for his two rounds, with Barry on 134

Third place could only be determined on countback with Angus Towers taking the honours on 138 a score also recorded by Ross Aitken and Peter Gibb On the scratch side, Peter Gibb dominated with two 73s and a total of 146. Barry Scott, Fraser Mortimer and Brian Howden were each six shots further back on 152

Thirty-three members played in the competition and twenty-seven attended the traditional evening meal and social session in the evening.  This year the meal was held in the Clubhouse and I understand people were present till late into the evening.  It is likely that the Clubhouse will be the evening venue for the end of season function in future years.

This years final is likely to have been Stewart Paisley's swansong in Minto competitions given his house move to Kelso and his joining The Roxburghe.  Perhaps playing regularly at Roxburghe makes Minto just that little bit easier?    However, a net 62 at Minto requires very good golf at any time.  Of course, the 1.3 cut to Stewar'ts handicap as a result of the 62 in the Fox Final Round 1 will now make Roxburghe a bit more challenging!   Barry's afternoon 64 was also a high quality round

Prizes were paid for 1st to 3rd handicap and 1st scratch in each round.  Stewart, Ross Aitken and David Howden won the morning's handicap prizes (£25, £15, £10) with Peter Gibb taking the scratch prize, £20  (golfers can only win one prize in any one round).  In the afternoon the handicap prizes went to Barry Scott, Brian Allan and  Angus TowersPeter Gibb took the scratch prize again as Barry Scott won a higher value handicap prize.  The overall prizes of £50 went to Stewart and Peter

In addition to the strokeplay there was a 2s competition which benefited six golfers who shared a £50 pot.

There was also a sweepstake which was won by Eddie Berridge who picked Stewart Paisley's name out of the hat.  Second and third prizes in the sweepstake went to Richard Allott and Gordon Ferguson.

All of the entry fees for Finals day was recycled as prize money.
